Senior Database Administrator

Position Summary

The Database Administrator administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases. This individual will report to the Operations Manager, but will work closely with the development groups and the Database Engineer in particular. The DBA will help troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, capacity planning and replication design and operation. This person will be a crucial player in the implementation of high performance OLTP and reporting databases to support NameMedia’s rapidly expanding data management needs.

Job Requirements

    Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering large scale, high performance database systems
  • Minimum 3 years experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005 in a web application environment
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with:
    • SQL Server 2005 Transactional Replication, design and administration
    • SQL Server/Windows Clustering
  • Experience with data warehousing, ETL processing, and OLAP
  • Experience with log shipping and database mirroring
  • Experience with disaster recovery and backup
  • Must be able to read, write and debug T-SQL queries
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence/Reporting software
    Desired:

  • Knowledge of lock management strategies and database concurrency issues
  • Experience with Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and 3rd party tools
  • Experience with stored procedures, user defined functions, and views desirable
  • Experience with query tuning, analysis
  • Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of SQL Server internals
  • Experience with database platform migration
