Release Engineer

Position Summary

As a Release Engineer in Namemedia, the candidate will work with other members of technology organization to identify requirements, design, implement, and maintain new and existing high-visibility, high-traffic customer facing and company-internal web applications in a predominantly Linux/Java/JSP/Servlets/JDBC/Struts/SQL environment. The successful candidate will have a passion for creating/ maintaining scalable, innovative web applications. Location is Waltham, MA.

  • Develop and integrate tools and methodologies for automated packaging, deployment and configuration of all company applications
  • Participate in requirements, functional, architecture and design specification reviews
  • Deploys applications’ code between environments on a smooth path to production
  • Troubleshoots application integration, deployment and configuration issues
  • Provides input on new and existing processes and procedures based on industry best practices
  • Provide detailed reports with results analyses

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years or more years directly related work experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the tasks above
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and task assignments with ease
  • Expert with source control systems such as SVN, CVS, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge in code branching, tagging, merging methodologies and release procedures
  • Experience with Release Engineering development tools and systems such as Ant, Maven, Java, PHP, CruiseControl, Anthill, etc.
  • Experience with automation builds and deployments process
  • Familiar with Java applications and packaging tools, including structure of war and ear files
  • Familiar with application server such as Resin, Tomcat, JBoss, etc
  • Familiar with web server such as Apache httpd server
  • Familiar with LINUX and Windows environments
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Open Source MySQL
  • Knowledge of Perl and Unix shell scripting
  • Word Press and PHP Experience
  • Self-motivated, thrives in an intense, dynamic environment and finds creative solutions
  • Creative problem solver, architect, designer, and mentor
  • Ability to work and solve problems independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Can write a test documentation from product requirements and technical design and specificartions
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Has consistently been among the top engineers on their team
