NameMedia is seeking a highly skilled and team-oriented Senior Java Software Engineer/Architect for our SiteSense Technology Team at our headquarters office in Waltham, MA (10-miles west of Boston).
Position Overview:
This Senior Java Software Engineer/Architect will report to the Director of Engineering for our SiteSense Technology Team. This position will play a critical role in designing, building and maintaining the SiteSense platform. This position requires a talented and ambitious self-starter who thrives in a dynamic setting.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to design, develop, unit-test and implement solutions using J2EE technologies (EJB, JMS, Seam, Struts, etc) in a highly scalable web application.
Responsibilities within the 5-person team include gathering & analyzing requirements, formulating solutions in conjunction with other teams and ensuring the successful roll-out of those solutions to our expansive web application platform. Approximately 20% of your efforts will be focused on design & architecture and ~80% of your time will be focused on hands-on development & coding.
The application development organization values team members that have an appetite for continuous improvement and learning. Reading, research and training are constantly encouraged, as are knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements:
1) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
2) 8+ years experience in designing and developing object oriented software (current Java knowledge & experience is required)
3) A demonstrated ability to:
a. develop technical solutions to complex business problems
b. work effectively in a fast-paced development environment with 2-week release cycles
c. build highly scalable, transaction-based applications
d. architect reporting systems
4) Experience working with:
a. Database architecture and schema design
b. Database application development (SQL Server preferred)
c. MVC frameworks such as Struts and Spring
d. Java data access & ORM frameworks such as JPA, Hibernate and iBatis
e. Unit testing frameworks such as JUnit
f. Linux and Windows environments
5) Familiarity with:
a. Ajax, XML, messaging, UML, web services
b. JavaScript, DHTML, XHTML/CSS
